1. Bespoke Commissions
By engaging with Ladakh Wood Works for a custom piece of architectural woodwork, Choktse table, or handicraft, you agree to the specifications actively finalized via consultation. Variations in grain, color, and minor design nuances are inherent and celebrated hallmarks of genuine hand-carved natural timber and are not considered defects.
2. Payments & Advance Deposits
Because all woodwork is carved explicitly to order by our master artisans, we strictly require an upfront deposit to commence sizing and initial roughing of the timber.
- Standard Orders: Require a 50% non-refundable advance deposit. The remaining 50% is due directly prior to dispatch.
- Large Architectural Jobs: May be billed in phased milestones, explicitly outlined in your bespoke project quote.
2. Timelines & Variations
Ladakhi woodcarving (Shingskos) is a slow, methodical heritage craft. Average estimated lead times range from 10 days to 8 weeks depending on the complexity of the piece. Timelines may stretch marginally due to climatic curing of the wood during winter months in Ladakh.
3. Intellectual Property
The intricate traditional designs, templates, and patterns we produce remain the intellectual property of the traditional Ladakhi Shingskos lineage and Ladakh Wood Works. Replicating our structural designs for commercial mass production is prohibited.
